Driver cited for following too closely in two-vehicle crash
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the intersection of C.R. 6 E and C.R. 17 for a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday around 12:12 p.m.
The report states a 2012 Ford Fusion, driven by 78-year-old Stephen A. Zimmerman of Elkhart, was traveling east on C.R. 6 E, behind a 2019 Ford Ranger, driven by 64-year-old Dianna Trigg of Elkhart.
Zimmerman said he believed Trigg would be turning and kept watching southbound traffic to watch for a clearing to turn.
Trigg was stopped in the right turn lane to go south on C.R. 17, waiting for traffic to clear to turn.
Zimmerman stated when he looked forward and saw Trigg stopped, he couldn't stop in time.
Zimmerman then collided with Trigg.
Zimmerman refused medical treatment and had no complaints of pain. He was also issued a citation for following too closely.
Trigg also refused medical and had no complaints of pain.
Zimmerman's passenger, 38-year-old Sarah J. Robinson of Elkhart, had complaints of neck pain, but refused medical treatment.
Robinson was advised to report to a hospital if the pain continued or worsened.
All occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
