Driver cited in three-vehicle crash Wednesday morning
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the intersection of S.R. 19 and C.R. 28 for a three-vehicle crash on Wednesday at 5:59 a.m.
The report states a 2016 Ford F250, driven by 72-year-old Devon Witmer of Goshen, was traveling south on S.R. 19 at the intersection of C.R. 28.
A 2010 Ford F250, driven by 55-year-old Frank Winquist of Elkhart, was also traveling south on S.R. 19 at the intersection of C.R. 28, in front of Witmer.
A 2020 Ford F250, driven by 54-year-old James Laughman of Elkhart, was traveling south on S.R. 19 at the intersection of C.R. 28, ahead of Winquist.
Authorities say Laughman came to a stop at the intersection waiting for northbound traffic to clear to turn left to head east onto C.R. 28.
Winquist then began to slow for Laughman when Witmer struck Winquist's rear end.
Winquist then went off the roadway and Witmer's front end continued to strike Laughman's rear end.
Laughman was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries regarding his right leg.
Witmer was cited for following too closely.
