Driver dies on scene of three-vehicle accident

Troopers are investigating the death of a driver after a fatal crash just before 2:00 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 31 and 9A Road.

According to Indiana State Police, preliminary investigation shows the driver of a 2007 Chevrolet Impala was traveling eastbound on 9A Road when the driver attempted to cross U.S. 31, pulling into the path of a semi tractor-trailer and a van.

The semi struck the driver’s side of the Impala and forced the car into the van, killing the driver of the Impala.

ISP says the collision sent the Impala and van across the median into northbound lanes of U.S. 31.

The driver of the van, 45-year-old Timothy Lands, and the driver of the semi, 36-year-old Emir Domazet, received minor injuries in the accident and were treated at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

Authorities say the name of the driver will not be released until family is notified.
