HOWARD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Cass County Sheriff says that a male driver overturned their vehicle and crashed into a utility pole after avoiding a small dog that ran out into the middle of the road Wednesday afternoon in Howard Township.

The crash happened near the intersection of Detroit Road and Lake Road at around 11:30 a.m.

The driver was 36-year-old Ikbal Singh and the passenger was Shila Devi. Singh was driving eastbound on Detroit Road when the accident occurred.

The immediate area lost power because of the damage done to the utility pole. Crews were quickly able to restore power.

Both Singh and Devi were transported to the hospital and they are expected to be okay.

The individuals were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

An investigation is ongoing.
