Driver injured in single-vehicle Berrien county crash

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Deputies responded around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday to a single-vehicle crash on US 12 near Forest Beach Road, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arriving on the scene, deputies discovered a brown Nissan Titan stopped in the eastbound lane of US 12.

According to witnesses, the truck went off the road while headed east on US 12 and allegedly struck a mailbox, several trees and a road sign before heading into a ditch.

The driver, a 42-year-old man from Valparaiso, Indiana, was ejected from his vehicle during the crash, and was transported to a nearby hospital for serious injuries.

Deputies believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials say that the crash will remain under investigation.
