Driver killed after vehicle collides with semi on Red Arrow Highway

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- A 57-year-old driver was killed when his vehicle crashed into a semi on Red Arrow Highway Wednesday afternoon, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the 39000 block of Red Arrow Highway in Paw Paw Township for a crash involving two vehicles and a semi.

Deputies say a 57-year-old man was traveling westbound on the highway when he drove his vehicle into the eastbound lanes to pass another vehicle. Just as he began passing, a semi pulled out into the eastbound lanes from a private drive, causing a near head-on collision, deputies said.

The driver whose vehicle struck the semi was killed in the crash.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, deputies said.

The crash remains under investigation.
