Driver killed in collision with South Shore train

A Michigan City woman was killed when her vehicle was struck by a train early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at 5:57 a.m. at the Holiday and Pleasant South Shore Railroad crossing.

According to Michigan City Police, 37-year-old Crystal Greene was traveling north on Pleasant Avenue crossing the Holiday Street tracks when the train struck her vehicle. Her vehicle was pushed to the intersection of Holiday and Helen.

The engineer of the train said the warning lights were activated when the driver crossed the tracks.

Greene was taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

The South Shore lines were delayed, but have resumed their normal routes.
