Driver killed in fiery crash

Michigan State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Briar Road in Bertrand Township Friday afternoon. The driver was killed in the crash.

Around 2:40 p.m., troopers were called to Briar Road, east of Portage Road, for a vehicle accident.

When they arrived, they discovered a vehicle that struck a tree and caught fire.

Niles and Bertrand township fire departments responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

The driver did not survive the crash.

Police said they will work with the Berrien County Medical Examiner's Office to identify the driver.
