Earth Day cleanup at Indiana Dunes National Park April 22

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. -- Indiana Dunes National Park has announced the Third Annual Earth Day Cleanup on Monday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to noon.

"Family, friends, neighbors, and park employees will join forces to collect a winter’s worth of trash and debris from roadsides, beaches, the Little Calumet River, and trails throughout the area to help beautify the parks and make the region a cleaner place to live," the National Park Service said.

You can register for the event at Indiana Dunes Visitor Center on the day of the cleanup.

“Participating in the cleanup is a great way to take pride in your community, celebrate the spring, and enjoy your local National Park” said Volunteer Program Manager Jim Whitenack.

The Visitor's Center address is 1215 N. State Road 49 in Porter and volunteers will be assigned cleanup areas during registration.

"Dress for the weather. Equipment and protective gear will be provided," NPS officials said. "This event is sponsored by the Friends of Indiana Dunes and Mermaid Straw."
