A call came in just after 3 p.m. reporting the incident, which happened near Nimtz Parkway.
The crash involved one semi and five vehicles.
One vehicle caught on fire.
"We had some officers from other departments that were here at Tire Rack training, said Indiana State Police Sgt. Ted Bohner. “They were able to respond almost immediately until troopers could get there."
Westbound traffic is being diverted at exit 72.
Eastbound traffic is being diverted at exit 49.
Drivers should expect delays.
