Elkhart County approves legislation to carry guns in parks

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- On Monday, the Elkhart County Board of Commissioners approved legislation so licensed gun owners can carry firearms in public parks.

The ordinance goes into effect on May 1st.

It's the result of a state statute passed last year, allowing gun owners to carry fire arms in certain public places.

An interesting note -- according to county rules, fireworks, knives, and bow and arrows are not allowed in parks.
