Two-vehicle crash in Elkhart County on Oct. 18

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reported on a two-vehicle crash at 3:43 on Oct. 18.

A 2016 Nissan Sentra was traveling east on C.R. 8, before turning left onto northbound C.R. 1. The driver of the Nissan claimed that they stopped at the stop sign and waited for the garbage truck to pass before turning.

A 2021 Kia Sorento Black was traveling south on C.R. 1 behind the garbage truck, out of vision to the driver of the Nissan.

The driver of the Kia, 49-year-old Todd Hazelton, observed the Nissan turn quickly in front of him, causing Hazelton to attempt to evade the Nissan. The Nissan struck the front drivers side wheel and panel of the Kia, causing disabling damages.

The Hazelton made no complaints of pain and did not want to be examined by medical responders.

The driver of the Nissan made complaints of neck pain from airbag deployment and was cleared by medical responders. They were found to not own a driver's license or permit and claimed that the Nissan Sentra belonged to her father.

A witness stopped and observed the scene claiming that the Nissan did not completely stop at the stop sign and that they turned too quickly in front of the Kia.
