ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Elkhart County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call of shots fired in the 57000 block of Keltner Road on Saturday, November 19 at 4:19 p.m.
Deputies say 57-year-old Charles Ragland shot his handgun at 49-year-old Steve Ragland after a dispute over a vehicle. Steven Ragland was not hurt.
Charles Ragland than left the scene in that vehicle, and when deputies attempted to stop him, he drove off.
Deputies found the car later in the 57000 block of Keltner Road and investigators determined Charles Ragland had left the car and ran on foot.
Charles Ragland was found later in a wood area near County Road 13 and County Road 18. The Elkhart County SWAT team was called in to respond to the situation.
At 9:23 p.m. Charles Ragland shot himself in what deputies say is an apparent suicide attempt. He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where he died.
