Elkhart County Historical Museum to outline the long-lasting impact of the Railroad Machine Shop

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. --The program History Detective: Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Machine Shop, will be presented by the Elkhart County Historical Museum, on two different occasions.

Thursday, January 19 at 7:00 p.m. is when the in-person presentation will take place, and Friday, January 20 at 1:00 p.m. will be a virtual program.

To attend the virtual program, pre-registration is required, which you can register by going to the Elkhart County Parks website at elkhartcountyparks.org and find the event on the Events Calendar page.

Built by the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern in 1871, a machine shop had the capability to hold and repair 25 locomotives simultaneously.

The program will explain how the railroad and shops investment in Elkhart County impacted the community.

This will be the first program in the museum's 2023 History Detective series, which will approach history and its interpretation, form different perspectives.

The programs will highlight how continuing to research and find new sources of evidence can update our understanding of the past.
