ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – Elkhart County’s Christmas Bird Count is set to take flight on Saturday, January 2.

The Elkhart County Parks will host the 25th annual Elkhart Christmas Bird Count and volunteers are invited to take part and help track and report birds they see from their yards and feeders during the event.

Participants who live within the boundaries of the count circle – from the state line on the north to Waterford Mills on the south- are invited to report the birds that visit their feeders and properties.

Count can take place anytime throughout the day and for any length of time.

At feeders, participants will use the highest number of each species seen at any one time for their final tallies.

Christmas Bird Counts collect valuable data by volunteers which can help scientists monitor declines of valuable species.

To participate, all volunteers should register before 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 31 by contacting the Elkhart County Parks at 574-535-6458 or email [email protected]. Please leave your name, address, phone number, and email to receive further directions and forms for the bird count.
