Milder but wetter conditions this weekend
ELKHART, Ind. - An emergency preparedness drill was hosted at Elkhart General, gathering multiple emergency departments to run through the scenario.
Taking place in the drill were Elkhart County Emergency Management Agency, Elkhart City Fire Department, Tri-County Ambulance Service, Indiana Toll Road, Indiana State Police, Beacon Health Transport and Memorial Med Flight.
For Indiana State Police Sergeant Ted Bohner, this emergency drill was essential to lay the groundwork for a worst-case scenario.
"Something like this is going to be like an all-hands-on deck situation," said Sergeant Bohner. "You know, we can't plan and stage for every situation. But this gets us thinking you know about the what if."
Emergency departments enacted a 35-car pileup scenario, simulating what a multi-car collision would look like on the toll road.
Community volunteers portrayed victims, while emergency responders treated their wounds at Elkhart General Hospital.
