Elkhart launches new real-time road closure map

ELKHART, Ind. -- The City of Elkhart announced the launch of its new real-time street closure map on Friday afternoon.

City officials say the Geographic Information Systems team at Public Works has been working to get a map created and staff trained to update it regularly.

Officials say the map reflects full closures, partial closures, and associated detours.

"We know road closures, especially this time of the year, are frustrating for drivers. Construction season and event season happening at the same time just compounds that frustration. With ASPIRE Elkhart, the short-term pain of closures will give us long-term gain, as we make once in a lifetime investments in our city's infrastructure," said Mayor Rod Roberson. "Accessing this map, created by our talented GIS staffers, should help reduce some of that frustration by making it easier to plan your route before you leave home."
