Elkhart man arrested on multiple counts of battery

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department have arrested 30-year-old D'Micah Jones of Elkhart for multiple counts of battery at multiple locations on Monday night, including a 7-Eleven and a Marathon gas station.

According to the police, Jones, who the victim claims to not know at all, was in the Marathon gas station on S. Main Street when he punched a man, causing a laceration.  The 911 call for that incident came into dispatch around 5:38 p.m.

At 6:14 p.m., another 911 call was received by Elkhart City 911 Communications. The caller said that a customer inside the 7-Eleven gas station on E. Jackson Boulevard had been physically assaulted by a male suspect.

"An off-duty Elkhart County Deputy Sheriff and an EPD officer observed a male matching the suspect's description walking northbound on Johnson Street near Orchard Street," the EPD stated. "The officers exited their vehicles and approached the subject. Male subject struck the ESCO deputy sheriff in the face with his fists, causing redness and swelling. The officers tackled the suspect, who continued to refuse to listen to commands as the officers attempted to place him into custody. The male suspect also allegedly punched the EPD officer in the jaw, causing pain."

Jones was arrested and booked on preliminary charges of Battery, Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Battery on a Public Service Officer.
