Elkhart Municipal Airport will receive a half-million-dollar repavement

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – The Elkhart Municipal Airport will receive a half-million-dollar repavement after two jets sank into the asphalt during the summer.

A ramp was installed in 2018 for $50,000 but a 30,000 pound Bombardier Challenger and 15,500 pound Cessna Citation sank into the asphalt in June.

Elkhart city attorney Lawrence Meteiver said that the asphalt was too soft to support the weight of the jets.

A new mix that will be installed after this winter is recommended by the Federal Aviation Administration and will cost around $565,000.
