Elkhart Police officers appear in federal court

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The two Elkhart Police officers who have been charged with federal civil rights violations were in federal court in Hammond on Wednesday.

Cory Newland was arraigned and entered a plea of not guilty. His next hearing will be held April 4 to discuss the terms of his release.

Joshua Titus also appeared in court Wednesday, but appeared without his attorney. He did not enter a plea, but was read the charges against him.

Titus will appear in court on April 4 to discuss the terms of his release.

Newland and Titus are accused of striking a man who was in custody - and the incident was captured on surveillance video.
