Elkhart Police pursuit ends on Toll Road, suspect not located

ELKHART, Ind. - A brief police pursuit began off County Road 6 in Elkhart and ended on the I-80/I-90 Toll Road Thursday evening.

Authorities say at approximately 5:19 p.m., Thursday, the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a call that a man with felony warrants was near the Ross Dress for Less store on County Road 6 in Elkhart.

Elkhart Police were dispatched and arrived at the area shortly thereafter. The EPD officer observed a man matching the caller’s description.

The man then fled in an older Honda Civic according to documents.

The officer initiated a vehicle pursuit at approximately 5:24 p.m. The suspect vehicle fled westbound on County Road 6 and struck a vehicle, causing non-life-threatening injury to that driver.

The Civic then traveled northbound on Moose Trail, going through woods near where it dead ends and went through two fences where it got on the I-80/I-90 Toll Road by the Toll Plaza, traveling westbound.

Officers came upon the Civic, which was unoccupied, near the 89-mile marker. The suspect driver had fled the scene.

Police say the male suspect has not been located as of 8:00 p.m. Thursday. This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
