Elkhart Police warn of identity deception scam
ELKHART, Ind. – The Elkhart Police Department is warning the public of an identity deception scam involving unordered packages.
According to reports, scammers are using victims’ information to purchase packages without the victim knowing.
Victims reported that a suspect came to their address claiming an unwarranted package was theirs but it was mistakenly delivered to the victim’s address.
After the victim gives the suspect the package, the victim learns the items were ordered and purchased using the victim’s information but without their permission.
If you receive a package that you didn’t order but was addressed to your residence, contact the sender to see if it was sent mistakenly.
If the sender says it’s not a mistake, check your accounts for unauthorized purchases.
You should also try to return the unwarranted package if necessary.
Don’t give the package to anyone who comes to your residence claiming the package was delivered to the wrong address.
