Elkhart Police warn of warrant phone scam

ELKHART, Ind. – The Elkhart Police Department is warning the public about a phone scam asking individuals to pay money to lift alleged warrants.

Over the past week, people posing as Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office employees have been calling individuals concerning alleged “warrants.”

According to police, these scammers are telling people to put money on gift cards or pay them through apps to have the warrants lifted.

The Elkhart Police Department and the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office will not contact you by phone telling you you have a warrant and need to mail or wire money.

If you get a call like this, hang up, police said.
