Elkhart shooting a result of altercation among 2 groups

The Elkhart Police Department says the shooting Monday night in the 400 block of Wagner Avenue was the result of an altercation among two groups.

Police were called to the 400 block of Wagner Avenue around 10:49 p.m. Monday for reports of a shooting with injuries.

Police say before the shooting, there was an altercation among two groups of people.

During the altercation, the suspect came from the side of the building and fired a handgun, police said.

The victim, a 25-year-old female, was shot in the abdomen and thigh.

The victim was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing all black.

The investigation is ongoing.
