Elkhart, Warsaw receive funding to support educators

The Elkhart Community School Corporation, Warsaw Community Schools, and Indiana University South Bend received funding from the Indiana Department of Education to support educators in their schools.

The Attract, Prepare, Retain Grant supports local initiatives that help attract and retain teachers. Schools and teachers in 29 Indiana counties were awarded the funding.

“The recipients of this grant understand the challenges of today’s labor market and know that schools and community partners must work together to find creative methods for recruiting and retaining Indiana’s very best educators,” said Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education.

Applications that received the grant focused on increasing leadership and career progression in the teaching profession. The applications also highlighted how to increase opportunities for high schoolers and underrepresented populations to pursue a career in education.

The grant is one of three strategies the Department of Education created to support teachers in Indiana.

The Department of Education also launched a supply and demand educator marketplace to provide data and make posting job openings easier and expanded the Indiana Learning Lab, a comprehensive website for educator resources.
