Elkhart Parks and Recreation ELKHART, Ind. -- The City of Elkhart is kicking off the holiday season with its annual Winterfest, a full day filled with festive activities designed to bring families, neighbors, and visitors together in the heart of downtown. The event takes place for Saturday, Dec. 6, Winterfest features longtime community favorites, new seasonal experiences, and plenty of holiday cheer.
“Winterfest is one of the events that truly captures the spirit of Elkhart,” said Mayor Rod Roberson. “It brings people together, highlights our local partners, and creates an atmosphere of joy and connection for families across our community.”
This year’s celebration features a breakfast with Santa at the Central Fire Station starting at 8 a.m., The Ugly Sweater Run at Northside Middle School begins at 8:30 a.m., Christmas on Main, a downtown shopping and community event starting at 11 a.m., and NIBCO Water and Ice Park opens for the ice skating season at 1 p.m. Kids 12 and under skate for free, thanks to sponsorship from NIBCO Inc. and Granger Community Church.
The debut of Winterfest Village at Central Green, open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring visits with Santa, photo opportunities with a live reindeer, performances by local groups and musicians on the Central Green Stage, food trucks, and a festive beer garden hosted by Brass Elk Brewing.
Ice carvers creating sculptures live throughout the day at various locations across downtown.
The popular Winterfest Lighted Parade at 6 p.m., traveling down Main Street from Harrison to Lexington with illuminated floats, holiday music, community organizations, and a grand appearance by Santa.
The community Tree Lighting Ceremony at 7:30 p.m. on the Central Green Stage, where Mayor Rod Roberson will lead the countdown and officially light the tree.
Winterfest is proudly presented by American Electric Power and Sunny 101.5, with additional support from community partners who make this event possible.
