EPD arrest two suspects in Thursday morning bank robbery

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department says they have two people in custody in connection with a bank robbery from earlier this morning at the Fifth Third Bank at 400 N. Main St.

"This morning, shortly after 9:30 a.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call of a robbery in progress at the Fifth Third Bank," EPD said. "The caller reported that two unknown male subjects entered the bank and demanded money. After the employee complied, the male subjects left the scene in a vehicle before officer arrival. The male subjects did not display any weapons during the incident, and no injuries were reported."

During EPD's investigation, officers identified a second potential suspect vehicle and followed that vehicle to a car wash at 111 Middleton Rd. shortly before noon.

Two male suspects ran from the vehicle, but both were detained nearby shortly thereafter, and taken into custody without further incident.

The first suspect is Tyrone Hunt, 61, of Elkhart, who was arrested on preliminary charges of Robbery, a Level 5 Felony, and Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor.

The second suspect is Melvin Levy, 43, of Elkhart, who was also arrested on preliminary charges of Robbery, a Level 5 Felony, and Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor.
