BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- An annual equine versatility competition took place at the Berrien County youth fair where six girls competed to earn a winning spot to receive a college scholarship.
The equestrians competed in four different challenges: British Horsemanship, Western Horsemanship, Speed, and Showmanship.
The first-place winner would receive a 500-dollar college scholarship while the second-place winner would receive a 250-dollar scholarship.
Chairman Tom Rossman said, "It's a great opportunity. The kids, I think, learn a lot of life skills in the process. So, it's a nice thing to be able to be involved in."
"It's nice, especially since the fair isn't officially underway, it gives a decent sized crowd that likes that. People like to come out and support the kids, and you know, there's usually a fairly decent amount of people that show up for it, and we appreciate that." stated Rossman.
