SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- President Donald Trump has approved a firing squad execution date of Dec. 3 to be carried out to Nidal Hasam. According to The Pentagon, the execution will also be livestreamed for viewers.

Hasan, a former army major turned his gun on fellow soldiers in 2009 and killed 13 officers, while injuring 32 others. Shooting his gun 146 times, he chanted 'God is great' in Arabic.

During his 2013 trial, Hasan said he opened fire to prevent his comrades from being deployed in Afghanistan and did it in support of the Taliban.

This execution by firing squad to a military official will be the first one in 81 years – the last execution happening after World War II. While military courts can set an execution date, presidential approval is required for any execution sentence to be carried out.

One of the victims from the shooting, Justin DeCrow, was a Plymouth native who left behind his wife and at the time 13-year-old daughter. ABC57 reached out to his wife, and in tears, she said she cannot do a formal interview because of the new pains that have resurfaced in light of the recent news.

Marikay DeCrow did provide a statement, saying, "Hasan took from us an amazing father, wonderful husband, and a great friend to so many. You couldn't have a bad day around Justin. His absence is felt every day."

Hasan will be executed where the shooting took place in Fort Hood, TX.
