Milder but wetter conditions this weekend
The calendar might say it’s October, but it hardly looks like fall across Michiana. Most of the leaves still on tree branches are as green as they were during the summer months.
Any change in color so far has mostly stemmed from drought conditions throughout Michiana. While the latest drought monitor did show some slight improvements, seasonal rainfall is still below normal.
However, don’t despair, fans of fall: the green leaves will rapidly change color over the next few weeks.
The upcoming weather pattern is perfect for a quick color change. The ideal scenario: a long stretch of sunny, warm days with highs in the 70s coupled with cool nights with lows in the 40s and 50s.
May I introduce to you: the First Warning Ten Day Forecast as of October 2!
Another contributing factor: the wind should remain light for most of the next ten days, so the current foliage won’t be disturbed too much as this seasonal change is taking place.
While it has certainly been a late start to the fall color season, peak fall color is still scheduled for the last third of October. Peak color should end by early November.
