Families in Michiana brave the cold for holiday activities

SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- Michiana families bundled up and braved the low temperatures for the Holiday Happenings event at Eddy Street Commons on Saturday.

Children like Adrianna Waldron were enjoying hot chocolate, and trying to stay warm.

Waldron said, “Snow, rain, or shine I come no matter what!”

Waldron and her siblings might have had a runny nose or two, but they were happy to be at the event.

Waldron said, “Just spending time with friends and family pretty much!”

Various retailers at Eddy Street Commons catered to families with stations for kids to make snow globes, luminaries, and bracelets.

Several sponsors held the event to benefit the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.

Temika Nicholson said this event helps her teach her children about the spirit of giving.

Nicholson said, "Christmas is one of the best holidays for our family!”

Around 4pm on Saturday, Santa arrived in a fire truck during the parade.

At the parade, Boy Scouts collected cans of food for the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.
