Families take advantage of wintry sledding weather at Indiana Dinosaur Museum

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Monday was the first day for folks to enjoy some wintry weather after a green, and at times, an unseasonably warm Christmas time.

It might sound like an unlikely place to go sledding, but the Indiana Dinosaur Museum offers more than just chocolate and dinosaurs; they also have the perfect hill for sledding.

A family was taking advantage of the snow-covered hill Monday.

"We were just looking for a fun place to go sledding and I was like 'Hey the Dinosaur Museum's got that big hill', and we picked up the cousin, got my little one out and now we're having the best time with the wind and the snow and the cold," says Skylar Jordan, out sledding Monday.

Jordan and her family are in town for the holidays from Florida, so she says they're soaking up every minute of the wintry weather here that they don't get back at home.

"You know, not a lot of people in Florida are like 'Hey let's go sledding, let's go play in the snow'," Jordan explains. "But I'm like 'Hey, let's get out there, let's not just sit inside and watch it from inside, let's go out there and take advantage of it', it's so much fun."

"We say if there's snow, there's sledding," says Jennifer Small, Marketing Director for the Indiana Dinosaur Museum.

Sledding is something you might not expect to see at the Indiana Dinosaur Museum, but it's a newer attraction that seemed to pick up especially this year with all the snowfall.

Plus, it's free, and they've got tubes for you if you need them.

"I think it's just kind of a little gift to the community that a lot of people still don't know about, so we're just having fun and enjoying it, and letting everyone explore together," says Small.

That's if you're willing to bundle up and embrace the snow.

"It's definitely a lot to bundle up a little baby and us, and trek up a hill and go down it multiple times, but it's worth it, it's fun," says Jordan.

The museum offers their sledding hill and tubes for free for any families that want to take advantage of it.

It's open to use whenever the museum is open, which is daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
