Family dog dies after pole barn fire

BERTRAND TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- A family pet died after a pole barn fire that had Portage Road closed most of the day.
The fire in Bertrand Township started around noon.
A dog in the barn suffered too much smoke inhalation, and despite efforts to save her, she had to be taken to a vet to be put down.
Family members think an electrical problem started the fire.
