SOUTH BEND, Ind – Fans gathered at Notre Dame stadium to catch the long awaited outdoor hockey game between Notre Dame and Michigan.
“I had such a good time at the Winter classic that I decided that I’m gonna go home and round up a bunch of my buddies and we’re gonna come out here and have a good time for the day,” Notre Dame fan Pat Bogenschneider said.
The game was pushed back by an hour due to the unusually warm temperatures and to accommodate fans going to the men’s basketball game versus Syracuse.
Fans like Evan Bogenschneider says he hopes the excitement this rare event sparks interests for more.
“It’s not every day you see that you see a hockey game outside so I’m hoping the crowd will be more into it,” Evan Bogenschneider said.
Notre Dame’s Associate Athletic Director of Marketing and ticketing says hopefully an agreement could be made so this event isn’t the last of its kind.
“It’s hard to say if it will happen again, we’d love to be able to host another outdoor hockey game I’m sure but we will see what the NHL and those cards hold for us down the line,” Pracht said.
