Fatal crash shuts down South Shore temporarily, causes power outages

The South Shore train service is currently closed due to a deadly car crash.

The crash happened just after 4 p.m. at 1770 Emery Road in New Carlisle, Ind.

LaPorte County police said the driver hit a power line and was killed. There may be more people in the car.

The crash has caused many power outages in that area. 

As far as how this will affect travelers, train #20 has been canceled. There is bussing between Michigan City and South Bend. This is expected to add 30 minutes for travelers who have to take a bus to their destination.
