UPDATE: C.R. 6 reopens following temporary closure for follow-up investigation into fatal motorcycle crash

UPDATE TWO EPD announced C.R. 6 has reopened as of 9:53 a.m. and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police say their initial investigation determined the motorcycle was traveling east on C.R. 6 struck a Jeep Wrangler traveling west.

The motorcyclist, identified as 31-year-old Matthew Hill, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jeep driver, identified as a 34-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment for minor injuries and is cooperating with the investigation.

UPDATE The Elkhart Police Department announced starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, C.R. 6 will briefly shut down between C.R. 9/Johnson Street and C.R. 11/Osolo Road for a follow-up investigation regarding Wednesday night's fatal crash.

Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes.

Police will release an update when the section has reopened.

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department is investigating a fatal crash between a motorcycle and a vehicle that occurred just before 9 p.m. tonight on County Road 6.

The crash occurred between a motorcycle and a Jeep near Stryker Street, where the male occupant of the motorcycle was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Jeep was sent to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and is cooperating with the investigation.

The name of the driver of the motorcycle is being withheld at this time pending the notification of family.

This is an active investigation, and we will update when we confirm more.
