Federal money coming to Ivy Tech Community College

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Ivy Tech Community College will be receiving more than $5 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Labor in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the largest amount of grant money the college has received in its history from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Ivy Tech will receive $2.7 million to create job training programs to help struggling workers who are looking to change careers.

The other grant is worth $2.4 million. The school plans on enhancing several of their programs including the Mechatronics program at the South Bend campus.

The $5 million grant is part of the nearly $500 million awarded by the departments of Labor and Education.

There is no word yet on how much money will trickle down to the campuses in Michiana. Stay with ABC 57 News for updates.
