The Indianapolis Zoo announced its giraffe Takasa had a female calf on February 11. The calf, named Makena, is the first female calf born at the zoo since 2000.
Makena's name means "happy one" or "abundance" in Swahili.
She is 134 pounds and stands 6-feet tall.
Makena is 21-year-old Takasa's seventh calf - and first female calf.
Zookeepers say Makena is curious and adventurous, but never ventures too far from her mother.
The new family, including father Maiani, will debut in the spring.
