ELKHART, Ind. – A female was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries after being shot Wednesday evening.

Elkhart Police heard gunshots near Prairie Street and Wagner Avenue around 8 p.m.

When police conducted a search they located several shell casings and vehicles that were struck by gunfire.

While Elkhart Police were investigating the scene, they were notified a female victim walked into the Elkhart General Hospital.

Police said the victim was walking in the area when she was shot.

This case is under investigation.
