Final year of U.S. 31/I-94 rebuilding begins April 4

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – The final phase of the U.S. 31/I-94 project begins April 4, the Michigan Department of Transportation announced.

This phase is part of the three-year, $121.5 million project to connect the two roads, rebuild the I-94 Business Loop and the I-196/I-94 interchange, and rebuild I-94 between Britain Avenue and I-196 in Benton Township.

From April 4 to 11, nighttime double-lane closures will be in place on I-94 for bridge sealing on the U.S. 31 and Territorial Road bridges.

Starting April 11, I-94 traffic will be shifted into the westbound lanes from Britain Avenue to east of I-196.

Starting April 15, the eastbound I-94 ramps to northbound I-196 and from southbound I-196 to eastbound I-94, will be closed and detours will be in place.

The entire project is expected to wrap up in late November.
