Fire at North Shore apartment complex

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Clean up is underway at two apartments after a fire Wednesday afternoon.

Crews were called out to the North Shore Apartment Complex around1:30 p.m. When they got there, they found smoke pouring out of the top of the building.

Everyone was able to safely get out before the fire department arrived.

"We didn't have flames showing, however, we did have some fire present in the building inside," said Chief Stephen Cox. "Our first arriving units were able to get in pretty quickly and get the flames knocked down."

Crews are still investigating the cause.

One woman who lives there told ABC57 that she had left her stove top on and the fire started in her apartment.
