Rainy, windy, then temperature crash
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – Crews responded to the scene of a fire at a scrap metal yard in New Carlisle on Tuesday.
Crews were called at 3:17 p.m. to 54450 Smilax Road for reports of a fire.
Police on scene told ABC57 the smoke was carcinogenic.
Crews from Indiana and Michigan battled the fire.
The fire was extinguished around 6 a.m. on Wednesday but smoke was still present in the area.
Officials on the scene reported that one firefighter was sent to the hospital for heat exhaustion.
No injuries have been reported in relation to this fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
