Fire chars Clay Township home, garage
CLAY TOWNSHIP, Ind. —The occupant of a home which caught fire Friday afternoon was able to escape without injury, according to Clay Fire officials.
On April 26, at approximately 1 p.m., Clay fire crews were dispatched to the 19000 block of Cowles Avenue on a report of a house fire.
Fire units arrived to the scene, with flames and heavy smoke showing from the rear of the house. Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the home and an unattached garage.
Fire officials say the blaze caused significant damage to the residence and the unattached garage.
The Community Risk Reduction Division is investigating the cause.
One occupant in the home at the time the fire broke out suffered no injuries, fire officials say.
Clay Fire officials would like to remind homeowners to check the batteries of smoke detectors or install one if you haven't done so already.
