Fire crews battled heavy smoke, flames Saturday

ELKHART, Ind. – Fire crews were alerted to a structure fire Saturday morning.

Elkhart Fire Department dispatched a crew to a structure fire located at 2135 Autumn Ridge Ln at approximately 1:36 a.m. Saturday morning.

Firefighters worked through heavy smoke while flames spread from the front of the home to the roof line.

Officials say the fire was under control within 30 minutes.

A smoke detector alerted the occupants who were able to safely evacuate.

The blaze was determined accidental by investigators who say it originated in the garage.

Authorities say the scene was cleared by 5:30 a.m.
