Firefighter Blue's Fest to raise funds for burn camp and survival house

NOW: Firefighter Blue’s Fest to raise funds for burn camp and survival house

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The Firefighter Blue's Fest is set to return on Saturday and features an all-star lineup of performers.

From the local firefighter union band to the nationally acclaimed accordion player, Dwayne Doopsie, the festival is set to have a series of different styles for all to enjoy.

But the purpose of the festival isn't just to bring great live music to the community; it's also to raise money for a pair of local resources.

The two organizations seeing the most benefit from the profits raised will be the local burn camp and the Survival House.

The burn camp provides children who have been scarred by fires a safe and healthy environment to interact with others, while the Survival House is a mobile resource that allows firefighters to take fire safety resources on the road.

"We can do anything from coming to schools and teaching people a plan on how to get out of their houses, to operating fire extinguishers and just being safe around fire." said Christian Rose, the President of Local Firefighter's 362.

Organizers say that the past few years have had poor weather conditions, which kept attendance low, but are expecting numbers to rise again this year with clearer skies.
