Firefighter suffers concussion in crash between semi-truck and fire tanker

SHIPSHEWANA, Ind. -- Two fire men were sent to the hospital Tuesday morning after a crash between their fire tanker and a semi-truck.

The Shipshewana Fire Department reports the crash occurred around 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of S.R. 15 and US 20.

The tanker was responding to an emergency call with lights and sirens activated. The tanker was heading to the fire at Fusion Designs on C.R. 43 in Goshen.

The semi driver was evaluated at the scene by medical personnel but declined further treatment.

The driver and the passenger of the fire tanker were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Both have since been released.

The passenger suffered a concussion due to the crash. The passenger is said to be recovering well, and as of Wednesday has returned to normal duties.

The fire tanker is out of service pending repairs. Fire officials say the severity of the damage is yet to be determined.
