Firefighter taken to hospital, cats found deceased in house fire

SOUTH BEND, Ind.— Multiple cats were found deceased inside of a house that caught fire on Haney Avenue on May 28 and one firefighter was sent to the hospital, according to the South Bend Fire Department

At about 1:13 a.m. on Tuesday morning, firefighters responded to the scene of a structure fire in the 400 block of E. Haney Avenue.

Crews arrived to find a working fire at a two story home. No one was inside of the home at the time and firefighters were able to force entry.

The battalion chief reported that one firefighter was transported from the scene to the hospital but was later released.

Multiple cats were found deceased inside of the house.

An investigation is underway to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
