Woman killed in house fire on Stanfield Street

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—An elderly woman was killed in a house fire on Stanfield Street on Friday morning.
Crews responded to a house fire just after 7 a.m. in the 900 block of Stanfield Street.
Firefighters searched the home and located a woman inside.
The resident, 88-year-old Phyllis Swihart, was taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
South Bend fire says the fire appears to have originated in a utility room at the back of the home.
An autopsy is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday in Fort Wayne.
