Dog dies in house fire on Forest Lake Trail

Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 5000 block of Forest Lake Trail in South Bend Wednesday, just before 10 a.m.

A delivery person called in the fire, firefighters said.

There were five dogs in the house at the time of the fire. One of the dogs did not survive the fire.

“Someone was making a package delivery and heard smoke alarms and noticed smoke coming so they called in. The fire was confined to one room,” said Dave Cherrone of the Clay Fire Department. “At this time we haven’t had a chance to go back in but we’ll be going in shortly to try and take a look at the scene and see what may have caused it. But no injuries. We do have one of the dogs that did not make it.”
