Clay Township, Ind. -- The Fourth of July can be a dangerous time shooting fireworks while celebrating our freedom.
The Clay Township Fire Department hopes to reduce the amount of incidents by bringing awareness to safety precautions and demonstrate how to set off Fireworks safely.
Some of the tips that Fire Marshall Ron Melser Jr. recommends are:
- Set them off on your own property
- Water the area before setting them off
- Kids could play with glow sticks instead of Sparklers
- Wear safety glasses and ear plugs
- Make sure you have a hose nearby
- Stay a good distance away after lighting them
- Do not try to relight a firework that does not go off
- Make sure to soak each firework in a bucket of water for twenty-four hours after lighting
